And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan's sake?
2 And there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba. And when they had called him unto David, the king said unto him, Art thou Ziba? And he said, Thy servant is he.
3 And the king said, Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may shew the kindness of God unto him? And Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet.
4 And the king said unto him, Where is he? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he is in the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, in Lodebar.
5 Then king David sent, and fetched him out of the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lodebar.
6 Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, was come unto David, he fell on his face, and did reverence. And David said, Mephibosheth. And he answered, Behold thy servant!
7 And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father's sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.
8 And he bowed himself, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?
9 Then the king called to Ziba, Saul's servant, and said unto him, I have given unto thy master's son all that pertained to Saul and to all his house.
10 Thou therefore, and thy sons, and thy servants, shall till the land for him, and thou shalt bring in the fruits, that thy master's son may have food to eat: but Mephibosheth thy master's son shall eat bread alway at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.
11 Then said Ziba unto the king, According to all that my lord the king hath commanded his servant, so shall thy servant do. As for Mephibosheth, said the king, he shall eat at my table, as one of the king's sons.
12 And Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Micha. And all that dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants unto Mephibosheth.
13 So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem: for he did eat continually at the king's table; and was lame on both his feet. 2 Samuel 9 KJV
There is nothing outside the Sovereignty of God, so David need not fear a son of his enemy, and it is has been some time passed since his covenant with Jonathan. Mephibosheth has nothing to offer the king that is not given to him, and it is a mercy that is not often shown. He restores to him the house of his father, for the love of Jonathan, but think as odd as it may appear, what do we have to offer God? That is a chasm of much greater immensity, I still cannot define with my eyes nor my mind the measure of eternity, but for the love of the Son, the Father gives those whom He has chosen, His Spirit. He comes lame and humbles himself before David, there must be fear for what is common, the violence that goes on against the family of the enemy, but David is quick to assure him that this is not the intent. Like David asked God, who am I, ask Mephibosheth. Behold what manner of love the Father has given unto us, that we should be called the sons of God. David restores his land, his servants to him, and he gives him a seat at his own table like one of his sons. God will honor the man who honors Him, and David will honor the son of his best friend. Oh that we understood such kindness, but those who say they know these things now take more pride in building walls. Yes, David is opening himself up to one who may possibly be envious of him, who may take pride in David's short comings one day, but who does not have envy in their heart for sure? Who does not have inside their heart the things that Christ calls murder? If you can be forgiven and blessed of God, then God can do the same for someone else, for there is nothing special about you that you created. While you live, if you are born again, than you are Christ here to this world. You are the Samaritan, the one who forgives so that you may be forgiven as well. I'm not ignorant of serpents or doves, but we say these things so many times without the counsel of the entire word, that they become cliché. You tell me you have enemies, I don't disagree, but what did Christ say about being children like our Father, oh yeah, that stuff. God, please help me not to take offense so easily, but to defend Your honor in love, for that is the only honor pure and without delusion. Let me speak with wisdom and let me speak much less, for in the abundance of words is little knowledge. Help me to be a peacemaker. To thine be the glory, the honor and praise, Amen.
Therefore, since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from wrath through Him! 10For if, when we were enemies of God, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life! 11Not only so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.…Romans 5: 9-11
Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of[a] your evil behavior. Colossians 1:21
