#1021 Isaiah 52:13 - 53:12 Part 5 Few

Behold, my servant shall act wisely;
he shall be high and lifted up,
and shall be exalted.
14 As many were astonished at you—
his appearance was so marred, beyond human semblance,
and his form beyond that of the children of mankind—
15 so shall he sprinkle many nations.
Kings shall shut their mouths because of him,
for that which has not been told them they see,
and that which they have not heard they understand.
53 Who has believed what he has heard from us?
And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
2 For he grew up before him like a young plant,
and like a root out of dry ground;
he had no form or majesty that we should look at him,
and no beauty that we should desire him.
3 He was despised and rejected by men,
a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;
and as one from whom men hide their faces
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

4 Surely he has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
smitten by God, and afflicted.
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his wounds we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned—every one—to his own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.

7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,
yet he opened not his mouth;
like a lamb that is led to the slaughter,
and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent,
so he opened not his mouth.
8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away;
and as for his generation, who considered
that he was cut off out of the land of the living,
stricken for the transgression of my people?
9 And they made his grave with the wicked
and with a rich man in his death,
although he had done no violence,
and there was no deceit in his mouth.

10 Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him;
he has put him to grief;
when his soul makes an offering for guilt,
he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days;
the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.
11 Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied;
by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant,
make many to be accounted righteous,
and he shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many,
and he shall divide the spoil with the strong,
because he poured out his soul to death
and was numbered with the transgressors;
yet he bore the sin of many,
and makes intercession for the transgressors. Isaiah 52:13 - 53:12

Isaiah 53:1

36While you have the Light, believe in the Light, so that you may become sons of light.” After Jesus had spoken these things, He went away and was hidden from them. 37Although Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still did not believe in Him. 38This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet: “Lord, who has believed our message? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”… John 12: 36-38

Who has believed what he has heard from us - Keep in mind this is a prophecy written 700 years before Christ, describing in tremendous detail His suffering, yet the verbs are in the past tense. This first verse is a lament of future believing Jews, and with the following also a confession. The answer to the question is - not many. Sure, many came to see miracles, to get healed, were astonished at the feeding of the 5,000 and the 4,000, the raising of Lazarus and others from the dead, but they did not want or accept the gospel message, not even those most learned, who would know these passages.

And on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things? What is the wisdom given to him? How are such mighty works done by his hands? 3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. 4 And Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own household.” 5 And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them. 6 And he marveled because of their unbelief. Mark 6: 2-6

25When they found Him on the other side of the sea, they asked Him, “Rabbi, when did You get here?” 26 Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I tell you, it is not because you saw these signs that you are looking for Me, but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. 27Do not work for food that perishes, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on Him God the Father has placed His seal of approval.”… John 6: 25-27

…62Then what will happen if you see the Son of Man ascend to where He was before? 63The Spirit gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life. 64However, there are some of you who do not believe.” (For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray Him.)…
65Then Jesus said, “This is why I told you that no one can come to Me unless the Father has granted it to him.” 66From that time on many of His disciples turned back and no longer walked with Him. 67So Jesus asked the Twelve, “Do you want to leave too?”…
…68Simon Peter replied, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 We believe and know that You are the Holy One of God. 70Jesus answered them, “Have I not chosen you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil!”… John 6: 62-70

…26But because you are not My sheep, you refuse to believe. 27 My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me. 28I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them out of My hand.… John 10: 26-28

10Then I will pour out on the house of David and on the people of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and prayer, and they will look on Me, the One they have pierced. They will mourn for Him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for Him as one grieves for a firstborn son. 11On that day the wailing in Jerusalem will be as great as the wailing of Hadad-rimmon in the plain of Megiddo.12The land will mourn, each clan on its own: the clan of the house of David and their wives, the clan of the house of Nathan and their wives,…
…13the clan of the house of Levi and their wives, the clan of Shimei and their wives, 14and all the remaining clans and their wives. Zechariah 12: 10-14

And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed - Logically, the power of God was revealed in Christ through miracles that showed Him to be from God. His power as Creator in breaking up five loaves and two fish to feed 5,000, and also in that the creation responded to His voice - He commanded the wind and the waves to stop. He revealed His power over life and death in raising Lazarus and in healing sickness which was a result of sin. He was the power of God to salvation from sin, but this is where the self righteous will always take issue. Death entered the world through sin, all have sinned and fall short, the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ, forever and ever amen.

16I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, then to the Greek. 17For the gospel reveals the righteousness of God that comes by faith from start to finish, just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith.” 18The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness.… Romans 1: 16-18

…39For this reason they were unable to believe. For again, Isaiah says: 40“He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so that they cannot see with their eyes, and understand with their hearts, and turn, and I would heal them.” 41Isaiah said these things because he saw Jesus’ glory and spoke about Him.… John 12: 39-41

Roy Gingrich - Israel did not recognize Christ as “the arm of Jehovah” - The people of Israel found it impossible to believe that the lowly man of Nazareth was “the arm of Jehovah,” the medium through which Jehovah executes His will in the universe, the medium through which His saving purposes are carried out. Christ’s being “the arm of Jehovah” was revealed only to an elect few in Israel, Matthew 16:16, 17; John 6:68, 69. (Book of Isaiah)

…16Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by My Father in heaven. 18And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it.… Matthew 16: 16-18

25At that time Jesus declared, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. 26Yes, Father, for this was well-pleasing in Your sight. 27All things have been entrusted to Me by My Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him.… Matthew 11: 25-27

Edward Young writes that "The revelation of the Lord’s strength and believing what we have proclaimed are two aspects of the same thing. The revelation of God’s arm upon a person is one of power (cf. Jer. 17:5), and hence to believe the report proclaimed is evidence that the Lord’s power has been manifested. It is the arm of the Lord that brought the nation out of Egypt (cf. Isa 51:9–10; 63:12), and this arm of power enables a man to believe. The passage clearly teaches that faith is a gift of God and not a work of man’s unaided power. It also teaches that unless God manifests His power, men will not be converted. We must ever depend upon God to work that His kingdom may be extended." (The Book of Isaiah - Volume 3, Page 341)

The arm of the Lord is revealed in Christ's submission to the will of God as well, for as the prophet Isaiah makes abundantly clear, the Messiah was called to suffer as the Lamb before He be exalted as King. Men are quite acclimated to sin, think little of it, love it, protect it, deny it's very existence. It is also necessary then that the arm of the Lord be the power unto salvation; God causing men to see their sin, and drawing them to repent at the cross.

1And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, 2in which you used to walk when you conformed to the ways of this world and of the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit who is now at work in the sons of disobedience. 3All of us also lived among them at one time, fulfilling the cravings of our flesh and indulging its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature children of wrath.…
…4But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in our trespasses. It is by grace you have been saved! 6And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,…
…7in order that in the coming ages He might display the surpassing riches of His grace, demonstrated by His kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9not by works, so that no one can boast.… Ephesians 2: 1-9

#1020 Isaiah 52:13 - 53:12 Part 4 Shut Their Mouths

Behold, my servant shall act wisely;
he shall be high and lifted up,
and shall be exalted.
14 As many were astonished at you—

Isaiah 52:15

…20In this way I have aspired to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation. 21Rather, as it is written: “Those who were not told about Him will see, and those who have not heard will understand.” 22That is why I have often been hindered from coming to you.… Romans 15: 20-22

15. So shall He sprinkle many nations - Naza can be translated sprinkle, spurt, spatter or startle. A hybrid of the interpretations could yield the picture of flicking water in someone's face or blood, and the reaction, but looking at the flow from verse 14, where the people in Jerusalem were astonished, "so shall He startle many nations" fits the text. Verse 13 seems to give the pattern, act wisely, lifted up and exalted. This seems to point to His second coming where every knee will bow and every tongue confess.

That said, it is noteworthy that the Septuagint renders naza with the Greek verb thaumazo (future middle) which means to be extraordinarily impressed with, on one hand or extraordinarily disturbed by, on the other hand. Thaumazo is often used in the NT to express the human reaction to divine revelation (Mt 8:27; 9:33, 2 Th 1:10, Acts 3:12, etc). Clearly the Hebrew translators were fully aware of the distinctly different Greek verb rhantizo (used in Heb 9:13) which means to sprinkle but they passed on that verb and instead choose the verb thaumazo. That fact plus the context of the passage (the following phrase referring to the the shutting of the mouths of kings), would seem to favor that this passage is best translated "He will startle many nations." In addition, verse 14 begins with "just as" (speaking of the astonishment of the Jews), verse 15 begins with "so" (ESV) or "thus" (Septuagint where the adverb is houtos which "with reference to what preceded in combination with a correlative to produce a comparison (means) (just) as . . . so." (Friberg). JUST AS they were astonished, SO the nations will be sprinkled makes far less sense as a comparison than "JUST AS they were astonished, SO the nations will be startled." P A

Kings shall shut their mouths because of Him - People were shocked at His humiliation, but the whole world, even kings, whose words are held in high regard here, will be speechless at His future exaltation.

…28Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather. 29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days: ‘The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.… Matthew 24: 28-30

…6After all, it is only right for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, 7and to grant relief to you who are oppressed and to us as well. This will take place when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels 8in blazing fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.… 2 Thessalonians 1: 6-8

For that which has not been told them they see - Oddly enough, at Christ first advent, the people of Israel were looking for Him. The Scribes searched the scriptures to know the time and place, even the wise men from the east knew these prophecies and followed the star to Bethlehem. When He comes back people won't be looking for Him, and the whole world, even those who have never heard, God will open their eyes and ears; they will understand Who He is, and what His appearance means.

…6who has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father—to Him be the glory and power forever and ever! Amen. 7Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him— even those who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. So shall it be! Amen. 8“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, who is and was and is to come—the Almighty.… Revelation 1: 6-8

…12Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. 13This is why I speak to them in parables: ‘Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.’ 14In them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled: ‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.… Matthew 13: 12-14

…18“There is no fear of God before their eyes.” 19Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. 20Therefore no one will be justified in His sight by works of the law. For the law merely brings awareness of sin.… Romans 3: 18-20

38nor does His word abide in you, because you do not believe the One He sent. 39You pore over the Scriptures because you presume that by them you possess eternal life. These are the very words that testify about Me, 40yet you refuse to come to Me to have life.… John 5: 38-40

…41Others declared, “This is the Christ.” But still others asked, “How can the Christ come from Galilee? 42Doesn’t the Scripture say that the Christ will come from the line of David and from Bethlehem, the village where David lived? 43So there was division in the crowd because of Jesus.… John 7: 41-43

because he poured out his soul to death
and was numbered with the transgressors;
yet he bore the sin of many,
and makes intercession for the transgressors. Isaiah 52:13 - 53:12

Isaiah 52: 14

As many were astonished at you - Astonished from the word shamem which can mean awe struck, appalled, causing horror, stunned, lay waste, devastate.

And I myself will devastate (shamem) the land, so that your enemies who settle in it shall be appalled (shamem) at it. Leviticus 26:32 ESV

63The men who were holding Jesus began to mock Him and beat Him. 64They blindfolded Him and kept demanding, “Prophesy! Who hit You? 65And they said many other blasphemous things against Him.… Luke 22: 63-65

…64You have heard the blasphemy. What is your verdict?” And they all condemned Him as deserving of death. 65Then some of them began to spit on Him. They blindfolded Him, struck Him with their fists, and said to Him, “Prophesy! And the officers received Him with slaps in His face. 66While Peter was in the courtyard below, one of the servant girls of the high priest came down… Mark 14: 64-66

For Peter, this was so difficult a vision that he denies Christ three times. The silence of the Messiah must be overwhelming, and the fervor of His accusers, the disrespect, spitting, hitting, would all be a spectacle, appalling. For His followers it would be devastating, a reality that they had put off in their minds, for this only happens to wicked men; what did He do? There is a point at which the body breaks, and this happens to many when something, an experience, is so traumatic, so overwhelming, they faint or they freeze.

His appearance was so marred, beyond human semblance - He doesn't even look identifiable any more, they would beat all resemblance of humanity out of Him. It is strange that those made in the image of God can so easily, and with great satisfaction, savage that image in another human being.

…21Why are you asking Me? Ask those who heard My message. Surely they know what I said.” 22When Jesus had said this, one of the officers standing nearby slapped Him in the face and said, “Is this how You answer the high priest? 23Jesus replied, “If I said something wrong, testify as to what was wrong. But if I spoke correctly, why did you strike Me?”… John 18: 21-23

…66What do you think?” “He deserves to die,” they answered. 67Then they spit in His face and struck Him. Others slapped Him 68and said, “Prophesy to us, Christ! Who hit You?”… Matthew 26: 66-68

Thompson on marred - When He was before Annas, Jesus was smashed in the face by an officer (John 18:22). When He was before Caiaphas, He was spit on, slapped, and beaten in the face with fists (Matthew 26:67; Mark 14:65; Luke 22:63). When He was before Pilate, Pilate had him scourged with whips (John 19:1; Matthew 27:26; Mark 15:15) and soldiers brutally punched Him in the face with their fists (John 19:3). His beard was ripped out of His face (Isaiah 50:6). By the time this was all over, you could not even recognize that this is Jesus. (Ibid)

The scourge they used would tear at His flesh, would cause all the muscles to tense in response, until the victim was broken down. They were trained professionals, and would only go so far as to not kill, but to make the person incapable of resistance. The executioners wanted Him to be alive on the cross, for this was a cruel spectacle of torture, discouraging all else who might have been inclined to follow. Peter denied Him, others fled, and all their hopes were being torn away with every slash of the whip. The strong bulls of Bashan had their trial; they had what they always wanted, a chance to kill God.

Isaiah 52:13

Moody Bible Commentary - The Jewish interpretation of this Song is significant. In the ancient Rabbinic literature, the Servant was frequently identified as the Messiah (e.g., Targum Jonathan ben Uzziel [written c. AD 100–200] on Isaiah 52:13 states, “Behold, my Servant the Messiah will prosper”; Bab. Sanhedrin 98a). However, the influential medieval Jewish interpreter Rabbi Shlomo Yitzchaki (Rashi, AD 1040–1105) identified the Servant as Israel. Today, most Jewish interpreters follow Rashi, as do most critical scholars. The following are six reasons the Servant in the fourth Song cannot be identified as Israel.

First, the pronouns of the Song would be inconsistent. In the body (Isa 53:1–9), the people of Israel are speaking and uniformly identify themselves in the first person (we, our, us). They also describe the Servant in the third person (He, Him). Thus, Israel cannot be the Servant.

Second, the Servant is said to die for “my people” (Isa 53:8). Isaiah’s people were the people of Israel. Therefore, the Servant cannot be Israel and also die for Israel.

Third, the Servant is described as completely innocent (“He had done no violence, nor was there any deceit in His mouth,” Isa 53:9). Yet, throughout Isaiah, Israel is called guilty (e.g., Isa 1:16–20; 5:7). The nation cannot be the innocent Servant.

Fourth, the Servant suffered for the sins of others (Isa 53:6). But the nation of Israel suffered for her own sins (Isa 40:2).

Fifth, the Servant was a willing sufferer, rendering “Himself as a guilt offering” (Isa 53:10). But Israel did indeed suffer, in fact, twice as much as she deserved (40:2), but never did so willingly.

Sixth, the Servant actually died (“cut off out of the land of the living,” Isa 53:8). Certainly many in Israel did die but the nation collectively did not perish. In fact, God promised that the nations could never totally destroy His people (Jr 31:35–37). On the whole, it seems best to maintain the earliest Jewish view that the Servant should be identified as the Messiah.

Shall act wisely - No one has ever had issue with Him coming in power, wisdom, delivering Israel and ruling over the nations. This aspect of Messiah was widely accepted, and some Rabbis even thought, suggested that the Messiah could possibly be a leper, being that his face was marred, and he was esteemed as stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. Verse 13 goes all the way to the end of human history, to the time of the Millennial reign of Messiah, and then Isaiah, from this vantage point, looks back to Messiah's first advent as redeemer in verse 14.

…6For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from that time and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of Hosts will accomplish this. Isaiah 9: 6-7

He shall be high and lifted up - Isaiah saw Him there in Is 6. He sees the Lord, Adonai, see link before to Is 6.

1In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted; and the train of His robe filled the temple.2Above Him stood seraphim, each having six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.… Isaiah 6: 1-2

…40“He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so that they cannot see with their eyes, and understand with their hearts, and turn, and I would heal them.” 41Isaiah said these things because he saw Jesus’ glory and spoke about Him. 42Nevertheless, many of the leaders believed in Him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, for fear that they would be put out of the synagogue.… John 12: 40-42

As John MacArthur says "It’s high, higher, highest. God is going to make Him high, then higher, and then highest. High, I believe, looks at His resurrection. Higher looks at His ascension. And highest looks at His coronation. He is going to be so successful that God is going to raise Him from the dead, God is going to take Him into glory, and God is going to sit Him at His right hand, Philippians 2:9-11. God is going to give Him a name above every name, the name Lord. And at that name, every knee will bow. God is going to make Him the ruler over everything in the universe. He’s going to be the King of the universe, as well as the head of the church. The astonishing revelation of the Servant of Jehovah is this, He will come, He will succeed, He will accomplish the purpose of God by His great effort, and God will validate that by raising Him from the dead, taking Him into glory and seating Him on His throne. PA

I am inclined to see a dual message here, ultimately every knee will bow, and I think from Isaiah's vantage point he sees Christ exalted on His throne, this will be the finale and the reality of the Millennial kingdom. But part of this glory comes from suffering, and there is no kingdom to rule unless there are those redeemed, purchased, made clean. In other words, there is no kingdom of men over which to rule, if there is no cross on which to atone. Isaiah has, from the beginning, indicted himself, Israel and the nations. He has chastised their outward, cliché and ceremonious religion with which they perform empty rituals.

…4At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook, and the temple was filled with smoke. 5Then I said: “Woe is me, for I am ruined, because I am a man of unclean lips dwelling among a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of Hosts.” Isaiah 6: 4-5

10If anyone from the house of Israel or a foreigner living among them eats any blood, I will set My face against that person and cut him off from among his people. 11For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for your souls upon the altar; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.12Therefore I say to the Israelites, ‘None of you may eat blood, nor may any foreigner living among you eat blood.’… Leviticus 17: 10-12

10Hear the word of the LORD, you rulers of Sodom; listen to the instruction of our God, you people of Gomorrah! 11“What good to Me is your multitude of sacrifices?” says the LORD. “I am full from the burnt offerings of rams and the fat of well-fed cattle; I take no delight in the blood of bulls and lambs and goats.12When you come to appear before Me, who has required this of you—this trampling of My courts?… Isaiah 1: 10-12

…4because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. 5Therefore, when Christ came into the world, He said: “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but a body You prepared for Me. 6In burnt offerings and sin offerings You took no delight.… Hebrews 10: 4-6

Who is exalted? We exalt winners, everyone loves to identify with a winner, a champion. The conquering king or general gets the parade and the high seat. God the Son, He steps down from His heavenly throne, cloaks Himself in humanity, is born of a virgin, to a poor family that lives in a town of low reputation. Yes, you will see Him on His throne, but only if you first see Him as your replacement on the tree. He is the exalted conqueror, it was there my Lord conquered sin and death for me. It is there He paid the price of redemption.

22If a man has committed a sin worthy of death, and he is executed, and you hang his body on a tree, 23you must not leave the body on the tree overnight, but you must be sure to bury him that day, because anyone who is hung on a tree is under God’s curse. You must not defile the land that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance. Deuteronomy 21: 22-23

…13No one has ascended into heaven except the One who descended from heaven—the Son of Man. 14Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life.… John 3: 13-15

…22Jews demand signs and Greeks search for wisdom, 23but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.… 1 Corinthians 1: 22-24

It's not where people normally look to see glory, He was hung between two criminals, but He had done no wrong, neither was there any deceit in His mouth. He came to do the will of His Father, to be the propitiation for our sins, and rightly did they wave palms in front of Him as He came through the streets on a donkey, saying, blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. He came for the Passover, not to watch, but to be it, the Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world. I saw Him exalted there first, no one else but God could do that. Most of the religious leaders and the world wrote Him off for being there, but if you read Isaiah, then you already knew that was going to happen. Isaiah knew it 700 years before it happened, and he records their response before they give it.
