#11 "Eve" Genesis 2

Then the Lord God said, "It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him." So out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to waht he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all the livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, "This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man."
Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed. Genesis 2: 18-25

We return to the sixth day and Adam naming the creatures that God has made. Amongst all of creation there was no fit helper for Adam; he was, at this point incomplete. God puts him to sleep, opens him, and takes out a rib for the necessary DNA to create his other half, Eve. Funny, we are just now figuring out stem cell research, but here God utilizes part of Adam to fashion Eve. He does not return to the dust to fashion a completely separate individual, but rather links them together as one. This sets the stage for the Biblical view of marriage and God's intent. Man and woman were one and in harmony; it is a picture or reflective of the Trinity. You have man, woman and Creator.

It is much different today where people still stand before God, family and friends, and make wonderful vows that they, in the moment, probably intended to keep. But they don't and these vows quickly become just words that people say as ceremony, but do not have the heart to back up. Others take to another extreme and refuse to leave, making themselves martyrs to an abusive relationship. Marriage is not about how we appear to the rest of the world and covering up bruises. Don't pretend, pray, and be honest with each other. Put God at the head and make what's important to her important you.

Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous. Hebrews 13:4
