13 Then I said: “Ah, Lord God, behold, the prophets say to them, ‘You shall not see the sword, nor shall you have famine, but I will give you assured peace in this place.’” 14 And the Lord said to me: “The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I did not send them, nor did I command them or speak to them. They are prophesying to you a lying vision, worthless divination, and the deceit of their own minds. 15 Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name although I did not send them, and who say, ‘Sword and famine shall not come upon this land’: By sword and famine those prophets shall be consumed. 16 And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem, victims of famine and sword, with none to bury them—them, their wives, their sons, and their daughters. For I will pour out their evil upon them.
17 “You shall say to them this word:
‘Let my eyes run down with tears night and day,
and let them not cease,
for the virgin daughter of my people is shattered with a great wound,
with a very grievous blow.
18 If I go out into the field,
behold, those pierced by the sword!
And if I enter the city,
behold, the diseases of famine!
For both prophet and priest ply their trade through the land
and have no knowledge.’”
19 Have you utterly rejected Judah?
Does your soul loathe Zion?
Why have you struck us down
so that there is no healing for us?
We looked for peace, but no good came;
for a time of healing, but behold, terror.
20 We acknowledge our wickedness, O Lord,
and the iniquity of our fathers,
for we have sinned against you.
21 Do not spurn us, for your name's sake;
do not dishonor your glorious throne;
remember and do not break your covenant with us.
22 Are there any among the false gods of the nations that can bring rain?
Or can the heavens give showers?

Jeremiah 14: 17-22 You Shall Say
You shall say to them - It doesn't matter what the other prophets are saying, and you can look at the attachments above for more back story, Jeremiah must say what God is saying. Again, God has given His word and the law, the word pictures of His opposition toward sin, and so these would be better gages for who was actually speaking on His behalf. His prophet will speak in line with the Word and Will of a Holy and Just God. He is not a God of confusion, so you must speak in a way that is consistent with His character, not what people want to hear, but what He actually intends.
For the virgin daughter of my people is shattered with a great wound - Judah, Jerusalem in particular, had never been captured and taken by a foreign kingdom. She was coming out from under the protection of her Father, and Jeremiah holds the deepest sorrow for her. Jeremiah's tears say a lot about him, that certainly and plainly we see now, and a remnant then probably also that he was God's true prophet, but he wasn't an "I told you so" kind of guy. This tears at his soul.
41As Jesus approached Jerusalem and saw the city, He wept over it 42and said, “If only you had known on this day what would bring you peace! But now it is hidden from your eyes. 43For the days will come upon you when your enemies will barricade you and surround you and hem you in on every side.… Luke 19: 41-43
For both prophet and priest ply their trade through the land, and have no knowledge - They talk and go through motions, but they are waterless clouds, pretending to speak in the Spirit, but having no part in Him. Everything they said would not happen is going to happen. These lying prophets may have made the people feel good for a time, but they have done them no special favor. The priests too, it is their job to guard the word of God, and they should have directed the people to repentance. We live in a day even now when men run around calling themselves prophets, saying they receive fresh, new messages from God, and often contrary to the Word that He has already sealed. Ask yourself this, is what these men are saying consistent with the whole counsel of God given in Scripture? Now, if it is, then what is the point in saying it as though from a vision or some special knowledge, why not do as Paul directed Timothy and rightly divide the Word of truth as is the job of a pastor or "Prophet", professor of God? Some even go so far today and call themselves "Apostles", and I know right away that they have no understanding of Scripture, and they have disqualified themselves from being sound teachers. Come out from under such nonsense, do not let these men and women teach your children.

19-22. Have You utterly rejected Judah....remember and do not break Your covenant with us - Jeremiah gives a heart felt, beautiful prayer of repentance, which again did not represent the nation as a whole, but God has always kept a remnant. What intercession, down to and aimed at the very heart of what they needed. God will not forget His covenant and even in Babylon we see the prayers of His own, and we look forward to the corporate confession of Israel in the end, that which Isaiah prophesied in his 53rd chapter. Ah, but look at this in Daniel.

We have turned away from Your commandments and ordinances. 6We have not listened to Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings, leaders, and fathers, and to all the people of the land.…
…7To You, O Lord, belongs righteousness, but this day we are covered with shame—the men of Judah, the people of Jerusalem, and all Israel near and far, in all the countries to which You have driven us because of our unfaithfulness to You. 8O LORD, we are covered with shame— our kings, our leaders, and our fathers— because we have sinned against You. 9To the Lord our God belong compassion and forgiveness, even though we have rebelled against Him… Daniel 9: 1-9
