#41 Witness of Entropy Genesis 15

After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: "Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great." But Abram said, "O Lord God, what will you give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?" And Abram said, "Behold, you have given me no offspring, and a member of my household will be my heir." And behold, the word of the Lord came to him: "This man shall not be your heir; your very own son shall be your heir." And he brought him outside and said, "Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them." Then he said to him, "so shall your offspring be." And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness. Genesis 15: 1-6 ESV

But the angel said to him, "do not be afraid Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth, Luke 1: 13&14

Abram was not the last to have his faith tested while waiting upon the Lord, and he as any of us would struggle with our eyes. He is getting older and the time of children is passing by, but God has promised to make his lineage great. Abram knows God to be the creator of life, but there must have been talk at the time, people wondering who the heir would be. His wife is passed her prime, and Abram is daily the subject of the natural world and the consistent order of things within the framework of time. God said it, Abram expected it, but it has yet to happen. It will require a miracle at this point.

We, who live under grace, even now wait upon the promised return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He has promised and told us what to expect; he has demonstrated that the world would hate us, yet commanded us to love our enemies. It is not the world's logic, but in faith, we have believed that He has overcome the world.

"Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going."
