#282 Without You


Clear Water



Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the Lord your God.

2 Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the Lord.

3 If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them;

4 Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.

5 And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.

6 And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.

7 And ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.

8 And five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.

9 For I will have respect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you.

10 And ye shall eat old store, and bring forth the old because of the new.

11 And I set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor you.

12 And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people.

13 I am the Lord your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright.

14 But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments;

15 And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant:

16 I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

17 And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you.

18 And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.

19 And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:

20 And your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits.

21 And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.

22 I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high ways shall be desolate.

23 And if ye will not be reformed by me by these things, but will walk contrary unto me;

24 Then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins. Leviticus 26: 1-24 KJV


I think it easy enough for most to see that slavery is not an ideal position. It is usually entered in to by way of hard times, kidnapping (which was by Jewish law punishable by death), or forsaking God. It is at it's best volatile, uncertain, and let me give you an example. Right now I love my boss; he is fair, honest and wants to share in the work. He is concerned with my well being and the amount of load I take upon myself. I have signed a contract as a salaried employee to the company overall though, not to an individual, so while I may have a boss that sees me now and recognizes me for my work, tomorrow one of us could be asked to go elsewhere. It is uncertain at best and I have seen my highs and lows here, but while men can change, kingdoms rise and fall, God is eternal. He is this in Justice, Love and Truth. 



So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

God does not change, nor does His expectation. When I was young the idea of believing in and obeying God seemed to me a form of slavery. I saw myself as my own person, and yet I hadn't created myself, the Universe, hung the earth at just the right distance from the sun, or even tried to understand anything that would question my want. I put up idols, just like the people here were warned not to. I believed in mankind, the humanist profession of faith. The ideas of there being right and wrong, and of God deciding such, went against my every impulse. No right or wrong, unless you say I'm wrong, unless you take something from me, unless you say there is right and wrong, unless you do something that I find offensive. So here we go into this delusion, and here the humanist will gladly step in and take the seat of power, and separation from God always finds your enemies waiting at the door. Since we have lost our minds and reason though, and believe in ourselves rather than the words of the Creator of the universe, we invite the enemy in. Instead of being covered by the blood of the lamb we drink the Koolaid of human pride, and then wonder about a God who is set against such arrogance. How dare He reclaim what is rightfully His and do what He has promised He would do.

#281 Systematic Slaves





39 And if thy brother that dwelleth by thee be waxen poor, and be sold unto thee; thou shalt not compel him to serve as a bondservant:

40 But as an hired servant, and as a sojourner, he shall be with thee, and shall serve thee unto the year of jubile.

41 And then shall he depart from thee, both he and his children with him, and shall return unto his own family, and unto the possession of his fathers shall he return.

42 For they are my servants, which I brought forth out of the land of Egypt: they shall not be sold as bondmen.

43 Thou shalt not rule over him with rigour; but shalt fear thy God.

44 Both thy bondmen, and thy bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye buy bondmen and bondmaids.

45 Moreover of the children of the strangers that do sojourn among you, of them shall ye buy, and of their families that are with you, which they begat in your land: and they shall be your possession.

46 And ye shall take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them for a possession; they shall be your bondmen for ever: but over your brethren the children of Israel, ye shall not rule one over another with rigour.

47 And if a sojourner or stranger wax rich by thee, and thy brother that dwelleth by him wax poor, and sell himself unto the stranger or sojourner by thee, or to the stock of the stranger's family:

48 After that he is sold he may be redeemed again; one of his brethren may redeem him:

49 Either his uncle, or his uncle's son, may redeem him, or any that is nigh of kin unto him of his family may redeem him; or if he be able, he may redeem himself.

50 And he shall reckon with him that bought him from the year that he was sold to him unto the year of jubile: and the price of his sale shall be according unto the number of years, according to the time of an hired servant shall it be with him.

51 If there be yet many years behind, according unto them he shall give again the price of his redemption out of the money that he was bought for.

52 And if there remain but few years unto the year of jubile, then he shall count with him, and according unto his years shall he give him again the price of his redemption.

53 And as a yearly hired servant shall he be with him: and the other shall not rule with rigour over him in thy sight.

54 And if he be not redeemed in these years, then he shall go out in the year of jubile, both he, and his children with him.

I hope you took the time to read both of the above links; they were eye opening to me. When I wanted to disprove the significance of the Bible for myself, Leviticus seemed a place to turn to. Slavery seemed  to be a system without reproach, in all of God's word, and why is that? Why didn't Jesus come out strongly against this institution? Was civilization, in my time, not more advanced and evolved? I mean, no one I know owns slaves, and it is illegal in this country. 

Many slaves back then were servants of an occupying power; they were kept alive after war and became free labor for their captors. Some, as we see here, were fallen on hard times and sold themselves into bond in order to pay off debt or survive. They were also turned loose from their service in the year of jubilee, no matter how long they had served prior to that year. 

It was a system, and some chose to stay slaves after their service was up, but why? Well, in Roman times slaves often held positions of respect, friendship with their masters and lived in the same dwelling. They were like contract, salaried employees, but shared the same roof, food, clothing and some money above that. Their families were taken care of for as long as they lived with the land owner and they supervised the day laborers. The day laborer was paid by the day he worked, and if there was no work then there was no pay. He had less security, but he was a free man. The problem with this system, as so many others, is that it relies on someone of a higher position doing what's right regarding those subject to him. I always prefer the system that looks well upon the rights of individuals, rather than trusting in the "inherent goodness" of my fellow man. Slavery, communism and socialism do not take enough into account the depravity of men. "Trust me or trust us, we have your best interest at heart. I am or we are the answer, just sign over your freedoms." They will attack a constitutional government and it's constitution, because a constitution recognizes that the majority can also be wrong. There is in the end no perfect system here, and a change of heart, humility, the love of God and wisdom are greater than any political promise.

Do not let it concern you, but if you can gain your freedom, take the opportunity. 22For he who was a slave when he was called by the Lord is the Lord’s freedman. #280 Sound the Horn

8 “‘Count off seven sabbath years—seven times seven years—so that the seven sabbath years amount to a period of forty-nine years. 9 Then have the trumpet sounded everywhere on the tenth day of the seventh month; on the Day of Atonement sound the trumpet throughout your land. 10 Consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you; each of you is to return to your family property and to your own clan. 11 The fiftieth year shall be a jubilee for you; do not sow and do not reap what grows of itself or harvest the untended vines. 12 For it is a jubilee and is to be holy for you; eat only what is taken directly from the fields.

13 “‘In this Year of Jubilee everyone is to return to their own property.

14 “‘If you sell land to any of your own people or buy land from them, do not take advantage of each other. 15 You are to buy from your own people on the basis of the number of years since the Jubilee. And they are to sell to you on the basis of the number of years left for harvesting crops. 16 When the years are many, you are to increase the price, and when the years are few, you are to decrease the price, because what is really being sold to you is the number of crops. 17 Do not take advantage of each other, but fear your God. I am the Lord your God.

18 “‘Follow my decrees and be careful to obey my laws, and you will live safely in the land. 19 Then the land will yield its fruit, and you will eat your fill and live there in safety. 20 You may ask, “What will we eat in the seventh year if we do not plant or harvest our crops?” 21 I will send you such a blessing in the sixth year that the land will yield enough for three years. 22 While you plant during the eighth year, you will eat from the old crop and will continue to eat from it until the harvest of the ninth year comes in.

23 “‘The land must not be sold permanently, because the land is mine and you reside in my land as foreigners and strangers. 24 Throughout the land that you hold as a possession, you must provide for the redemptionof the land.

25 “‘If one of your fellow Israelites becomes poor and sells some of their property, their nearest relative is to come and redeem what they have sold. 26 If, however, there is no one to redeem it for them but later on they prosper and acquire sufficient means to redeem it themselves,27 they are to determine the value for the years since they sold it and refund the balance to the one to whom they sold it; they can then go back to their own property. 28 But if they do not acquire the means to repay, what was sold will remain in the possession of the buyer until the Year of Jubilee. It will be returned in the Jubilee, and they can then go back to their property.

29 “‘Anyone who sells a house in a walled city retains the right of redemption a full year after its sale. During that time the seller may redeem it. 30 If it is not redeemed before a full year has passed, the house in the walled city shall belong permanently to the buyer and the buyer’s descendants. It is not to be returned in the Jubilee. 31 But houses in villages without walls around them are to be considered as belonging to the open country. They can be redeemed, and they are to be returned in the Jubilee.

32 “‘The Levites always have the right to redeem their houses in the Levitical towns, which they possess. 33 So the property of the Levites is redeemable—that is, a house sold in any town they hold—and is to be returned in the Jubilee, because the houses in the towns of the Levites are their property among the Israelites. 34 But the pastureland belonging to their towns must not be sold; it is their permanent possession.

35 “‘If any of your fellow Israelites become poor and are unable to support themselves among you, help them as you would a foreigner and stranger, so they can continue to live among you. 36 Do not take interest or any profit from them, but fear your God, so that they may continue to live among you. 37 You must not lend them money at interest or sell them food at a profit. 38 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt to give you the land of Canaan and to be your God. Leviticus 25:8-38 NIV

Jubilee, comes from a word signifying a horn or a trumpet, and with that sound the song of atonement, redemption. Debts were cancelled, slaves were set free, the earth was at rest from the plow. Everyone who had leased their land could now return to it, the original inheritors, and why, because it did not belong even to them. 

3"Now gird up your loins like a man, And I will ask you, and you instruct Me! 4"Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding, 5Who set its measurements? Since you know. Or who stretched the line on it?…Job 38:3-5

It belonged to the Creator, just as life itself, and so the outline reflects the greed of man, his inherent depravity. "Do not take advantage of each other, but fear your God." Five years till Jubilee would be measure as five years growing seasons. It was the use of the land they bargained, but the rite of it and the inhabitation always reverted back to the original owner in the year of Jubilee. If a man must barter it because he had fallen on hard times then he should not be taken advantage of, but he should have the option of redemption. His nearest of kin was obliged to redeem him. Within the walls of a city a house could be sold permanently, and this is probably to help the foreigner and anyone buying a place of residence. 

25 “There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. 26 People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. 27 At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” Luke 21:25-28

#279 Fallow



The Lord said to Moses at Mount Sinai, 2 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When you enter the land I am going to give you, the land itself must observe a sabbath to the Lord. 3 For six years sow your fields, and for six years prune your vineyards and gather their crops. 4 But in the seventh year the land is to have a year of sabbath rest, a sabbath to the Lord. Do not sow your fields or prune your vineyards. 5 Do not reap what grows of itself or harvest the grapes of your untended vines. The land is to have a year of rest. 6 Whatever the land yields during the sabbath year will be food for you—for yourself, your male and female servants, and the hired worker and temporary resident who live among you, 7 as well as for your livestock and the wild animals in your land. Whatever the land produces may be eaten. Leviticus 25: 1-7 NIV

This was a year when men did not sew nor did they reap. What came up from the ground was not harvested, but rather eaten from hand to mouth. The poor were not restrained from the field or the fruit of the tree. Naturally this allows for nature to recoup, for her to receive the decaying fruit and the fall of leaves. It allows for the beasts to free range and return what they have digested, back to the ground. The weeds, the clover and the alfalfa can grow and then be tilled under on the returning year. We bypass these old practices of alternating fields and letting the land lay fallow for the more "modern" practice of over fertilization. We destroy massive bodies of water with our run off and take no thought of stewardship. Red tide, brown tide, sludge, dead fish and grasses, and we can't seem to turn it off. 

3 Mary therefore took a pound[a] of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. 4 But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was about to betray him), said,5 “Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii[b] and given to the poor?” 6 He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and having charge of the moneybag he used to help himself to what was put into it. 7 Jesus said, “Leave her alone, so that she may keep it[c] for the day of my burial. John 12:3-7

Men are quick to judge even what does not belong to them, what they have not made nor earned.

#278 Your Scale or Mine





10 Now the son of an Israelite mother and an Egyptian father went out among the Israelites, and a fight broke out in the camp between him and an Israelite. 11 The son of the Israelite woman blasphemed the Name with a curse; so they brought him to Moses. (His mother’s name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri the Danite.) 12 They put him in custody until the will of the Lord should be made clear to them.

13 Then the Lord said to Moses: 14 “Take the blasphemer outside the camp. All those who heard him are to lay their hands on his head, and the entire assembly is to stone him. 15 Say to the Israelites: ‘Anyone who curses their God will be held responsible; 16 anyone who blasphemes the name of the Lord is to be put to death. The entire assembly must stone them. Whether foreigner or native-born, when they blaspheme the Name they are to be put to death.

17 “‘Anyone who takes the life of a human being is to be put to death. 18 Anyone who takes the life of someone’s animal must make restitution—life for life.19 Anyone who injures their neighbor is to be injured in the same manner:20 fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth. The one who has inflicted the injury must suffer the same injury. 21 Whoever kills an animal must make restitution, but whoever kills a human being is to be put to death. 22 You are to have the same law for the foreigner and the native-born. I am the Lord your God.’”

23 Then Moses spoke to the Israelites, and they took the blasphemer outside the camp and stoned him. The Israelites did as the Lord commanded Moses. Leviticus 24: 10-23 NIV

When we acknowledge that sin leads to death, it is usually with very shallow and loose conviction. Consider the wages for this young man here, and you may start to back peddle, "but God, this isn't fair. Why such a harsh punishment for something that people do so frequently in this dispensation of grace." Ah, twas grace that led you back to here. It's easy to forget that this God of the old Testament is the same and that such grace as you may now consider is not disproportionate to this justice. Remember, all sin is already judged. Was the flood so long ago in our reading or the demise of Sodom and Gomorrah? You will not change men's hearts though, so tell them of God's grace, tell them what He says, and pray for all men to be saved. Show men God's grace in that you are humble before Him, and that you wish no ill of your fellow man. Show them by forgiving all trespasses against yourself. Teach your children soberly, and read the whole of it. It wasn't a matter of knowing vs. not knowing, ignorance did not find such bliss here. 

All this is clear evidence of God’s righteous judgment. And so you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. 6After all, it is only right for God to repay with afflictionthose who afflict you, 7and to grant relief to you who are oppressed, and to us as well, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels…2 Thessalonians 1:5-7

because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead." Acts 17:31

#277 Shine





The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Command the Israelites to bring you clear oil of pressed olives for the light so that the lamps may be kept burning continually.3 Outside the curtain that shields the ark of the covenant law in the tent of meeting, Aaron is to tend the lamps before the Lord from evening till morning, continually. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come. 4 The lamps on the pure gold lampstand before the Lord must be tended continually.

5 “Take the finest flour and bake twelve loaves of bread, using two-tenths of an ephah[a] for each loaf. 6 Arrange them in two stacks, six in each stack, on the table of pure gold before the Lord. 7 By each stack put some pure incense as a memorial[b] portion to represent the bread and to be a food offering presented to the Lord. 8 This bread is to be set out before the Lord regularly, Sabbath after Sabbath, on behalf of the Israelites, as a lasting covenant. 9 It belongs to Aaron and his sons, who are to eat it in the sanctuary area, because it is a most holy part of their perpetual share of the food offerings presented to the Lord.” Leviticus 24: 1-9 NIV

This returns to Exodus 27, and some say that this moves it from the discussion and planning period to institution. In other words, it is given to us, but there were some preparations or other things to discuss or take place before the practice, and so now let's review it one more time. Much is repeated, and usually when I repeat something it is because the steps are important, and the sequence must be followed correctly. 

Be diligent in these matters and absorbed in them, so that your progress will be evident to all. 16Pay close attention to your life and to your teaching. Persevere in these things, for by so doingyou will save both yourself and those who hear you. 1Timothy 4:15-16

For this reason, even though I suffer as I do, I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him for that day. 13Hold on to the pattern of sound teaching you have heard from me, with the faith and love that are in ChristJesus. 14Guard the good treasure entrusted to you, with the help of the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. 2Timothy 1:12-14

For those who would insist that doctrine is not important or that they somehow receive a fresh word daily, that does not have to be tested by the Word of God, then they insist upon a gospel foreign to the early church. They infer that it is God, Who must somehow change daily to their whim, rather then they , who need conform to the image of Christ as sound keepers of the light. Aaron tends this light from evening until morning continually, the oil is specific, the charge is true and a "lasting ordinance for the generations to come." 

The tempter came to Him and said, “If You are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” 4But Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every wordthat comes from the mouth of God.’” 5Then the devil took Him to the holy city and set Him on the pinnacle of the temple.…Matthew 4:3-5

#276 Temporary Dwellings





33 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

34 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto the Lord.

35 On the first day shall be an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.

36 Seven days ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord: on the eighth day shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord: it is a solemn assembly; and ye shall do no servile work therein.

37 These are the feasts of the Lord, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, to offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord, a burnt offering, and a meat offering, a sacrifice, and drink offerings, every thing upon his day:

38 Beside the sabbaths of the Lord, and beside your gifts, and beside all your vows, and beside all your freewill offerings, which ye give unto the Lord.

39 Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when ye have gathered in the fruit of the land, ye shall keep a feast unto the Lord seven days: on the first day shall be a sabbath, and on the eighth day shall be a sabbath.

40 And ye shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before the Lord your God seven days.

41 And ye shall keep it a feast unto the Lord seven days in the year. It shall be a statute for ever in your generations: ye shall celebrate it in the seventh month.

42 Ye shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are Israelites born shall dwell in booths:

43 That your generations may know that I made the children of Israel to dwell in booths, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.

44 And Moses declared unto the children of Israel the feasts of the Lord. Leviticus 23: 33-44 KJV

What did we learn in the wilderness? They would relive or reenact the time of living in tents, wandering as strangers in a land that would not greet them with open arms. Can we acknowledge the sense of softness, the seduction of ease, and the pettiness of entitlement to which we all fall "victim". Victim is probably a stretch in these matters. A tent provides shelter, the manna was bread and the quail were meat. There was a cloud that protected from the full wrath of the sun, and fire by night to keep their enemies at bay. They had everything they physically needed, but there was still this spiritual problem. We would remain strangers there until the time of Christ and then we become more and more like stranger here, to our friends, our neighbors. It is from the spiritual that we come to realize that this time in tents is only temporary, not worth worry, no room for hate, and preciously short.

#275 Remember the Sound





23 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

24 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.

25 Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord.

26 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

27 Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord.

28 And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the Lord your God.

29 For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people.

30 And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people.

31 Ye shall do no manner of work: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

32 It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath. Leviticus 23: 23-32 KJV

The blowing of trumpets is a memorial, and some scholars offer what I believe to be a good interpretation based upon the present audience. They have witnessed God on the mount, received the ten commandments and entered into a covenant. 

18Now Mount Sinai was all in smoke because the LORD descended upon it in fire; and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked violently. 19When the soundof the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke and God answered him with thunder. 20The LORD came down on Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain; and the LORD called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.…Exodus 19: 18-20


It is a reminder of the covenant and a call to repent, as we see it moves in to a feast of atonement, a humble and holy convocation, that requires something from the participant that cannot be over stated. The Lord looks for those who worship Him in spirit and in truth. This is a call to sincere affliction, for whatever soul is not found that way, has like Annanias and Saphira or the sons of Aaron, leaned upon their own way and such strange fire. The call to approach is the call to repent and the same for Christians in this day. It is not a call to arrogance or a comparison with your neighbor, but rather a humble appeal to mercy, an approach made in the blood of One who could only approach. It is no mere holiday, we would like to believe there are no eternal implications or that this is another God that we find in the Old Testament. Beg for sincerity, wisdom and love. I think love itself encompasses these things and would admonish such, but we would warm ourselves in the "light" of our own strange fire here as well. We get the call, we repent and soon we will dwell in tents like strangers. What a glorious day!

15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who was tempted in every way that we are, yet was without sin. 16Let us then approachthe throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:15&16

#274 His





And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the Lord, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts. 3 Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the Lord in all your dwellings.

4 These are the feasts of the Lord, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons. 5 In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the Lord’s passover. 6 And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the Lord: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread. 7 In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein. 8 But ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord seven days: in the seventh day is an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.

9 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, 10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest: 11 and he shall wave the sheaf before the Lord, to be accepted for you: on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it. 12 And ye shall offer that day when ye wave the sheaf an he lamb without blemish of the first year for a burnt offering unto the Lord. 13 And the meat offering thereof shall be two tenth deals of fine flour mingled with oil, an offering made by fire unto the Lord for a sweet savour: and the drink offering thereof shall be of wine, the fourth part of an hin. 14 And ye shall eat neither bread, nor parched corn, nor green ears, until the selfsame day that ye have brought an offering unto your God: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

15 And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the sabbath, from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven sabbaths shall be complete: 16 even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the Lord. 17 Ye shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves of two tenth deals: they shall be of fine flour; they shall be baken with leaven;they are the firstfruits unto the Lord. 18 And ye shall offer with the bread seven lambs without blemish of the first year, and one young bullock, and two rams: they shall be for a burnt offering unto the Lord, with their meat offering, and their drink offerings, even an offering made by fire, of sweet savour unto the Lord. 19 Then ye shall sacrifice one kid of the goats for a sin offering, and two lambs of the first year for a sacrifice of peace offerings. 20 And the priest shall wave them with the bread of the firstfruits for a wave offering before the Lord, with the two lambs: they shall be holy to the Lord for the priest. 21 And ye shall proclaim on the selfsame day, that it may be an holy convocation unto you: ye shall do no servile work therein: it shall be a statute for ever in all your dwellings throughout your generations.

22 And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not make clean riddance of the corners of thy field when thou reapest, neither shalt thou gather any gleaning of thy harvest: thou shalt leave them unto the poor, and to the stranger: I am the Lord your God. Leviticus 23: 1-22 KJV

Are you still confused about what belongs to God? Even the feasts, in which they celebrated or rested from their work, were holy convocations. When they gathered together, it was a holy assembly, the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened bread. God's revelation was in parts and how marvelous and wonderful the picture of Messiah was even then, but why they must have asked, why must it be this way for God's people? We think ourselves holy and fit just by acquaintance with the story of Jesus, or a bumper sticker on our car, the same knowledge the demons have and yet tremble. We do not tremble, at  the God who is infinitely and eternally Holy and therefore by that same measure and for that same time opposed to our sin. Remember, you don't make up the feasts, you are playing in His sand box with His materials, observing and living with what He has made. You are not God. We declare ourselves good and our reasoning good, and our laws good, but even when we gain the knowledge, that yes, this finite existence did not create itself, we would declare ourselves righteous. So often we are merely religious, simply arrogant and still asking, why does it have to be this way, why didn't he just do this or perform some other sort of magic that made us all good? You're still confused. You still wonder when will I ever use this algebra in the real world? We still think we are saying something deep. Only eight people survived a flood that destroyed the whole world. Only Lot and his two daughters survived Sodom and Gomorrah. Only those who believe in Jesus Christ find peace with God. It is His world, His story, His feast, His holiness, His love and His word that shall remain. In verse 22 you will even see early his definition of religion. "Neither shalt thou gather any gleaning of thy harvest: thou shalt leave them unto the poor, and to the stranger: I am the Lord your God." 

Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away. Matthew 24:35



19My beloved brothers, understand this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger, 20for man’s anger does not bring about the righteousness that God desires. 21Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and every expression of evil, and humbly receive the word planted in you, which can save your souls. 

22Be doers of the word, and not hearers only. Otherwise, you are deceiving yourselves. 23For anyone who hears the word but does not carry it out is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror, 24and after observing himself goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom, and continues to do so—not being a forgetful hearer, but an effective doer—he will be blessed in what he does. 

26If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not bridle his tongue, he deceives his heart and his religion is worthless. 27Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:19-27

#273 Because of Who He Is





17 The Lord said to Moses, 18 “Speak to Aaron and his sons and to all the Israelites and say to them: ‘If any of you—whether an Israelite or a foreigner residing in Israel—presents a gift for a burnt offering to the Lord, either to fulfill a vow or as a freewill offering, 19 you must present a male without defect from the cattle, sheep or goats in order that it may be accepted on your behalf. 20 Do not bring anything with a defect, because it will not be accepted on your behalf. 21 When anyone brings from the herd or flock a fellowship offering to the Lord to fulfill a special vow or as a freewill offering, it must be without defect or blemish to be acceptable.22 Do not offer to the Lord the blind, the injured or the maimed, or anything with warts or festering or running sores. Do not place any of these on the altar as a food offering presented to the Lord. 23 You may, however, present as a freewill offering an ox[b] or a sheep that is deformed or stunted, but it will not be accepted in fulfillment of a vow. 24 You must not offer to the Lord an animal whose testicles are bruised, crushed, torn or cut. You must not do this in your own land, 25 and you must not accept such animals from the hand of a foreigner and offer them as the food of your God. They will not be accepted on your behalf, because they are deformed and have defects.’”

26 The Lord said to Moses, 27 “When a calf, a lamb or a goat is born, it is to remain with its mother for seven days. From the eighth day on, it will be acceptable as a food offering presented to the Lord. 28 Do not slaughter a cow or a sheep and its young on the same day.

29 “When you sacrifice a thank offering to the Lord, sacrifice it in such a way that it will be accepted on your behalf. 30 It must be eaten that same day; leave none of it till morning. I am the Lord.

31 “Keep my commands and follow them. I am the Lord. 32 Do not profane my holy name, for I must be acknowledged as holy by the Israelites. I am the Lord, who made you holy 33 and who brought you out of Egypt to be your God. I am theLord.” Leviticus 22: 17-33 NIV

What is it that you ask of the Lord, the Holy God, Creator of all that is present. What is actually yours to withhold from the One who made all things. Should He expect less of what belongs to Him, because it is what you would rather give. Should we maintain the defect as good because it is our preference to worship Him not as He is but in what manner we would like for Him to be? The demands off a perfect being, require Himself, and so should He not also place stipulations on those shadows of things to come? Keep His commandments and follow them, should we tell each other less, or is that madness, arrogance, delusion that speaks to us the ability to do so? I am not God, so I would prefer to know His commandments, and to repeat what He says rather than what I think. 


Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. 2 With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet.

3 Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? 4 Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”

5 When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened. 6 Then some young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him.

7 About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.8 Peter asked her, “Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?”

“Yes,” she said, “that is the price.” 


9 Peter said to her, “How could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.”

10 At that moment she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events. Acts 5: 1-11

#272 The Hood





The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Tell Aaron and his sons to treat with respect the sacred offerings the Israelites consecrate to me, so they will not profane my holy name. I am the Lord.

3 “Say to them: ‘For the generations to come, if any of your descendants is ceremonially unclean and yet comes near the sacred offerings that the Israelites consecrate to the Lord, that person must be cut off from my presence. I am theLord.

4 “‘If a descendant of Aaron has a defiling skin disease[a] or a bodily discharge, he may not eat the sacred offerings until he is cleansed. He will also be unclean if he touches something defiled by a corpse or by anyone who has an emission of semen, 5 or if he touches any crawling thing that makes him unclean, or any person who makes him unclean, whatever the uncleanness may be. 6 The one who touches any such thing will be unclean till evening. He must not eat any of the sacred offerings unless he has bathed himself with water. 7 When the sun goes down, he will be clean, and after that he may eat the sacred offerings, for they are his food. 8 He must not eat anything found dead or torn by wild animals, and so become unclean through it. I am the Lord.

9 “‘The priests are to perform my service in such a way that they do not become guilty and die for treating it with contempt. I am the Lord, who makes them holy.

10 “‘No one outside a priest’s family may eat the sacred offering, nor may the guest of a priest or his hired worker eat it. 11 But if a priest buys a slave with money, or if slaves are born in his household, they may eat his food. 12 If a priest’s daughter marries anyone other than a priest, she may not eat any of the sacred contributions. 13 But if a priest’s daughter becomes a widow or is divorced, yet has no children, and she returns to live in her father’s household as in her youth, she may eat her father’s food. No unauthorized person, however, may eat it.

14 “‘Anyone who eats a sacred offering by mistake must make restitution to the priest for the offering and add a fifth of the value to it. 15 The priests must not desecrate the sacred offerings the Israelites present to the Lord 16 by allowing them to eat the sacred offerings and so bring upon them guilt requiring payment. I am the Lord, who makes them holy.’”Leviticus 22: 1-16 NIV

The priest gains no special license or privilege in accordance with the keeping of the law. He is not exempt nor left with directions vague, so there is not the necessity for his interpretation. Whatever the people bring to him, they bring to God, and so the priest must remain clean. He must observe even the letter for he is it's guard and keeper. If he becomes unclean, he must refrain from his office and follow the same rule as any other. "I am the Lord, who makes them holy." The priest is not holy in himself, not by his own will, but because God who has chosen and set him apart is Himself Holy. The priest may not invite those outside his family to eat the sacred offering. That which is reserved to the honor of God is not token. It is not there for our business but rather His and so to our restraint and stewardship. We sneer but we live in our bellies and we talk out of our want and ignorance. The priests could not make exception, and the symbolism is strong for that of being unequally yoked. How marvelous the picture even here, of the daughter who does not marry a priest, it is not wrong for who to do so, but she is now even part of another family, outside the priesthood. Her husband does not gain privilege by marrying the priest's daughter. He has not bought his way in to spiritual power or a blind eye from God, no matter what the priests may do. God already decided, instructed, it is He who makes us holy in Him. God forgive me for where I am wrong, arrogant or lax. 



14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?15 What accord has Christ with Belial?[b] Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said,


“I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them,
and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.
17 Therefore go out from their midst,
and be separate from them, says the Lord,
and touch no unclean thing;
then I will welcome you,
18 and I will be a father to you,
and you shall be sons and daughters to me,
says the Lord Almighty.” 2 Corinthians 6: 14-18 ESV

#271 From Fallen Eyes





7 “‘They must not marry women defiled by prostitution or divorced from their husbands, because priests are holy to their God. 8 Regard them as holy, because they offer up the food of your God. Consider them holy, because I the Lord am holy—I who make you holy.

9 “‘If a priest’s daughter defiles herself by becoming a prostitute, she disgraces her father; she must be burned in the fire.

10 “‘The high priest, the one among his brothers who has had the anointing oil poured on his head and who has been ordained to wear the priestly garments,must not let his hair become unkempt[b] or tear his clothes. 11 He must not enter a place where there is a dead body. He must not make himself unclean, even for his father or mother, 12 nor leave the sanctuary of his God or desecrate it, because he has been dedicated by the anointing oil of his God. I am the Lord.

13 “‘The woman he marries must be a virgin. 14 He must not marry a widow, a divorced woman, or a woman defiled by prostitution, but only a virgin from his own people, 15 so that he will not defile his offspring among his people. I am the Lord, who makes him holy.’”

16 The Lord said to Moses, 17 “Say to Aaron: ‘For the generations to come none of your descendants who has a defect may come near to offer the food of his God.18 No man who has any defect may come near: no man who is blind or lame,disfigured or deformed; 19 no man with a crippled foot or hand, 20 or who is a hunchback or a dwarf, or who has any eye defect, or who has festering or running sores or damaged testicles. 21 No descendant of Aaron the priest who has any defect is to come near to present the food offerings to the Lord. He has a defect; he must not come near to offer the food of his God. 22 He may eat the most holy food of his God, as well as the holy food; 23 yet because of his defect, he must not go near the curtain or approach the altar, and so desecrate my sanctuary. I am theLord, who makes them holy.’”

24 So Moses told this to Aaron and his sons and to all the Israelites. Leviticus 21:7-24 NIV

A Priest could have a wife but not a prostitute or a divorced woman. The marriage union is sacred, deeply religious and ever the picture of Christ and His church. Christ would be without blemish but we are not, and it is His holiness to which we owe our admittance, not our own. It is to His image we are reconciled and so that it is not soiled with our present delusions of good; it is God's sanctifying work that forever changes us. 

It is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to the office of overseer, it is a fine work he desires to do. 2An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, peaceable, free from the love of money.…1 Timothy 3:1-3

The priest could not have defect, as he was fore-type of Christ. 

so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless. 28So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself;…Ephesians :27&28

knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, 19but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. 20For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you…1 Peter 1:18-20
